Gwynedd Council

Staff frequently work in buildings owned by other public sector organisations and required secure access to their systems. Roaming connectivity and the Multiple Occupancy Site Service (MOSS) enable staff to connect securely across shared locations.

The Challenge

Gwynedd Council operates across 229 sites and employs around 6,500 staff. Staff frequently attend meetings at locations belonging to other public sector organisations. Previously, they could not securely access their home network when working from other sites.

This limited their ability to use systems and complete tasks remotely. Staff sometimes had to travel back to their own offices to update records.

The Solution

We implemented PSBA Roaming to allow staff to securely connect to their network when working at other PSBA-enabled sites. The Multiple Occupancy Site Service (MOSS) was also introduced so organisations could share a single network connection. Staff can now access systems seamlessly when working across different locations.

This supports collaboration between councils, schools and health organisations. The improved connectivity also reduces travel time and improves productivity.

Sector: Education
Problem: Security and Reliability
Solution: Public Access Wi-Fi Service
Outcome: Strengthened Security

PSBA’s services have allowed our staff to work collaboratively. External authority staff can now access their network from our sites and complete tasks there and then, rather than returning to their own base. Gwynedd staff are also able to connect securely in the same manner from other authority sites where MOSS has been enabled. Staff benefit from being able to be co-located, while helping to reduce our costs. Our network team is also more productive as we spend less time managing multiple network services and requests from different organisations across the county.
